The mob drama is widely regarded as a ground-breaking series, and the award for best drama, a befitting tribute to one of the most popular shows of the past decade. But the programme's main star, James Gandolfini, failed to win the award for best actor. Instead, James Spader took top honours for his role in the drama Boston Legal.[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Sally Field was named best actress in a drama for Brothers and Sisters. She plays a mother whose son serves in the Iraq war. In her acceptance speech, she said if mothers ruled the world, there would be no wars in the first place.[/FONT]

By contrast, the award for best comedy series went to a newcomer, 30 Rock, a sitcom about a TV show. America Ferrera was named best actress in a comedy for Ugly Betty.[/FONT]
